Canadian Income Tax Extension

Canada’s Income Tax deadline for 2019 income taxes has been extended to September 30, 2020.  The Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) and Revenu Québec have extended the income tax payment deadlines for individual, corporation, and trust income tax returns.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the CRA is also offering interest relief on certain outstanding tax debts.  The CRA says it will not impose penalties and interest (including late-filing penalties) if taxpayers file their income tax return and make their tax payments by September 30, 2020.

Revenu Quebec has not yet said whether it will also provide this same relief.

In addition, the Canada Emergency Wage subsidy (CEWS) has extended the program through November 21, 2020 (an additional 12 weeks).  The program focuses on maximizing employment and retaining jobs in Canada across all economic sector and was designed to end on June 6, 2020.
