Servicengine and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

What is the CCPA?
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) of 2018, which takes effect on January 1, 2020, was created to protect the privacy and data of consumers.  It is intended to assure strong protection for California residents regarding their personal data and applies to businesses in California that collect, use, or share consumer data.  By this date, all businesses interacting with California consumers must update their online privacy policy.

This Act grants California consumers 5 new rights in respect to their personal data:

  1. Consumers will have the right to request disclosure of your business data collection and sales practices of this data.
  2. Consumers will have the right to request a copy of the specific personal information collected about them during the 12 months before their request.
  3. Consumers will have the right to have personal information deleted.
  4. Consumers will have the right to request that their personal information not be sold to third parties.
  5. Consumers will have the right not to be discriminated against because they exercised any of the new rights.
